Na'alapa Stables - Kahua Ranch Horseback Adventure

Kahua Ranch is spectacularly beautiful as well as one of the oldest working ranches in Hawaii. Enjoy a guided horseback riding tour at Kahua Ranch, featuring panoramic views of the mountains and the coastline, stately cinder cones and lush pastures dotted with grazing sheep and cattle.

The ranch's experienced paniolos (Hawaiian cowboys) and well-trained horses make for superb riding conditions, maximum safety for beginners and maximum flexibility for the experts. Here, you can enjoy a horseback ride that isn’t nose to tail. Opportunities for trotting and cantering are available as well.

Due to liability insurance restrictions, Naalapa Stables is unable to accommodate persons with Down Syndrome. This is due to a condition known as Atlanto-Axial dislocation or subluxation, which can occur in 10-20% of persons with Down Syndrome, where the ligaments and bone structures that normally maintain the proper position of the two vertebrae at the top of the spinal column are abnormal. During activities such as horseback riding, this physical stress on the spinal column can cause a shift, which can pinch the nerves at the base of the brain, leading to severe consequences.
