Home of Kauai’s main airport, the Lihue Airport, and to Nawiliwili Harbor, the islands cruise ship port and the major commercial shipping center is what makes Lihue one very busy place to be. Being the commercial and government center of the island, making Lihue probably the most traveled town on Kauai.
Don’t let all the businesses of Lihue blind you from its pretty beaches and unique natural wonders that you can explore. The Kalapaki Beach is home to the Marriott Kauai’s Beach Club and to the Kauai Lagoons Golf Club. Check out Kalapaki Beach, which is a popular spot for windsurfing, body surfing, and swimming. Ninini Beach has an automated lighthouse that has been operating since 1897. Just north of Lihue, you will find the Wailua Falls Lookout, where you can have amazing views and take great pictures of the waterfalls.
Along with all the other Hawaii Activities there are to do in Lihue, there are numerous historical spots for all the history buffs out there. Check out Alekoko (Menehune Fishpond), which is an aquaculture reservoir that is roughly 1000 years old. Visit the historic plantation estate called Kilohana. You will also find the historic Kauai Museum and the Grove Farm Homestead Museum. With much to do and see, Lihue is the gateway to adventure on the island of Kauai.
