Once named America’s Beach by the “Travel Channel”, Poipu is a true beach paradise. Being nestled in the Poipu Resort area is what makes this beach fun and convenient. Near the beach, you will find some of Kauai’s best dining, golf, and shopping. Poipu Beach is one of the safest beaches on the island, making it one of the most popular.
When one visits Poipu, you will find the waters to be very inviting. It is not uncommon during the months of December through May to find humpback whales spouting just off shore. Have your cameras ready because not only can you spot humpback whales, large honu (Hawaiian Sea Turtles) also like to swim in the waters here. Sometimes sunbathing along the shore are the endangered Hawaiian monk seal. There are only about 1200 monk seals left and many enjoy swimming the waters of Kauai. Please be sure to always stay clear of these creatures. Remain behind the barricades and obey all signs, or be sure to keep a distance of at least 150 feet from the monk seals, and please never feed them. Monk seals can weigh anywhere from 400 – 600 lbs and we don’t want to frighten them.
Poipu Beach is a great place for families. You will find a wading pool for toddlers and those younger swimmers. Pack a picnic and spend the day here with the entire family. The park has restrooms, picnic tables, showers, and lifeguards protecting the beach, including a Monk Seal Watch team there to protect the seals. There is wonderful snorkeling at Poipu Beach. You will find a variety of colorful fish, including the humuhumunukunukuapua’a, Hawaii’s state fish. Plan your getaway today to Poipu Beach and be ready to have a fun and relaxing day in the Hawaiian sun.
