Ka'anapali is on the west coast of Maui Hawaii, just north of the old whaling town of Lahaina. From mile long Kaanapali Beach, tourists can see the three neighboring Hawaiian islands - Kaho'Olawe, Lanai, and Molokai. During whale season, the shallow channel between the four islands is a favorite of the humpback whale population. Scores of whales can be seen at a single time during peak migration times. Experienced guides say this is because the shallow water between the islands keeps away large sharks. Mother humpback whales are often seen training their calves to breach.
Numerous resorts, restaurants, shopping centers, and Hawaii activities are found in the Kaanapali area so it is a favorite destination of Hawaiian vacations to Maui.
