Located at the foot of the verdant Kahalawai, or the West Maui Mountains, sits one of Maui’s premier resort areas known as Kapalua (Hawaiian meaning: arms embracing the sea). The shoreline of Kapalua is lined with five bays and three white, sandy beaches, one of them being named “The Best Beach in America” by the University of Maryland’s Laboratory of Coastal Research.
Kapalua was once known as the Honolua Ranch and then the Honolua Plantation back in the 1800’s. Today, it is a master-planned, 23,000-acre resort that is home to award-winning restaurants, over 20 boutique shops, historic sites, the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, and two renowned golf courses including the Bay Course, home to the 2009 Kapalua LPGA Classic, and the Plantation Course, home of the prestigious PGA Tour’s Hyundai Tournament of Champions that takes place in January. Also in June every year, the Kapalua resort is the host of the Kapalua Wine and Food Festival.
Kapalua is the perfect getaway to indulge in the luxurious side of Maui. Being surrounded by acres of pineapple an nestled amongst Cook pines, Kapalua is a fantastic place to visit when one is vacationing in Hawaii.
