The biggest draw to Hawaii, without question, is the incredible beaches that are found all over the islands. All along the coastline of the islands, locals and visitors flock to the sand for a day of fun and relaxation at locations that are straight out of a picture. On Maui, the beaches are often thought of as the best in all of Hawaii, and miles and miles of sandy coastline provide the perfect escape.
Knowing exactly where to go, and which beach to choose can be an overwhelming task. They are all so beautiful, and each offers its own experience, so making the right choice is very important. When visiting any beach in Hawaii, be sure to pick up after yourself and leave the beach as you found it, so we can continue to enjoy the stunning beauty for many years to come.
Here are the Top 5 Maui Beaches for your trip to the Valley Isle.
Big Beach
Kiehi’s Big Beach gets its name from the sheer size of the beach: it’s big. It is actually 2 beaches, Makena Beach and Oneloa Beach, but is most commonly referred to as Big Beach. The sandy area is very wide, and is one of the best beaches on the island. Watch out for the shore break when entering the water as it is very strong.
Wailea Beach
Also found in Kihei, Wailea Beach is known for its picturesque beauty. Once a place that few knew of, the secret is out on Wailea Beach, and is known to get extremely crowded, especially on weekends and holidays. Due to its proximity to resorts, there is access to outdoor bars, and beach chairs are available for rent. The water is nice and calm, and the views will take your breath away.
Wai’anapanapa Black Sand Beach
Any Road to Hana Tour makes a stop here, but a second visit is always must. The exotic black sand of the beach is an incredible site, and there are caves near the beach to explore. The rocky outcroppings and rough waters makes swimming and snorkeling less than ideal, but the surrounding beach park is still a great place to spend an afternoon.
Ka’anapali Beach
Found along Maui’s west coast, this is considered a signature beach and is esily one of the best. 3 miles of white sand and crystal clear water are enough to get anyone to visit, and because it is close to shops and resorts, there are plenty of places to rest and eat when the time comes. As the sun sets, look towards Black Rock for the daily cliff diving ceremony.
Baldwin Beach
On Maui’s North Shore, Baldwin Beach is a beautiful stretch of sand and ocean that is close to from Pa’ia and with amenities and parking, this beach is a very attractive destination. In total, there are 3 different beaches that are found here, all of which are great choices, but be sure to bring food and drinks when visiting as there aren't any amenities within a close distance. Another option is to head into Pa’ia for a bite and shopping.
