Known as a favorite Hawaiian Island, Maui is an ideal vacation destination, with so much to do and see, travelers are often left wondering where to begin. Planning a vacation is never easy, and fitting everything in proves to be the biggest challenge.
Hawaii Discount has put together 5 tips for visiting Maui to help you plan the perfect getaway. Keep these in mind when putting together your itinerary, and your trip will come together in no time.
Tip #1
After your travel day, you’re most likely going to be worn out, and will want to enjoy some downtime before your vacation really begins. On the first day of your trip, find a local restaurant that is easy to get to from your hotel, and make an evening out of a nice meal and a cold Kona beer. Your hotel concierge will be able to recommend great local restaurants that fit your price range.
Locals prefer dishes that are made with fresh fish from the day’s morning fishing trip. Have a bowl of poke, sushi rolls or fish tacos on your first night.
Tip #2
EXPLORE! Get out, away from the hotel or resort, and discover the island’s top attractions. Maui features some of the best including Haleakala and the Hana Highway, and both of these attractions allow you to see nearly the entire island, from two drastically different vantage points.
Along the Hana Highway are hidden beaches that you may otherwise not know even exist, and the sunrise and sunset from the top of Haleakala will take your breath away. Did you know that the Hana Highway features more than 600 curves?

Tip #3
Take time for you. The beaches of Maui are spectacular, and it doesn’t take long to get to some of the most well-known beaches on the island. Pack a lunch, grab plenty of water, make sure you have sunscreen, and head for a day on the sand. The beaches of Ka’anapali and Kihei are great, and heading further south to Big Beach will give you an idea of how locals spend their downtime.
Tip #4
Try as many ocean activities as possible.
Take a surf lesson from a local expert near your hotel, or enjoy a snorkel adventure. The snorkeling on Maui may be the best in Hawaii. Boats depart daily from Ma’alea and Lahaina for Molokini, where marine life is abundant. Dolphin watching tours are available as well, and the famed Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle is always hanging around at popular snorkeling spots.
Tip #5
Enjoy the island as much as you can. Many visitors look forward to their trip for years, and in some cases, get to visit the islands only a handful of times. Take advantage of the opportunity and discover everything you can about Maui. The island is a treasure and the more you experience, the more you will fall in love with it. As much as the draw of relaxing on the beach with a refreshing Mai-Tai is, the island is calling and offering an abundance of activities to keep you busy.
