All over the island of Oahu there are incredible sites to see, places to explore, and natural beauty to behold. The island’s most popular destinations are well-known and visited by nearly everyone that ventures to the island. But did you know that there is more of Oahu to discover? The island features so much that it might not seem possible, but a trip to Oahu’s west coast will show just that.
Once you’ve seen the top places on the island, like Dole Pineapple Plantation and the North Shore surf beaches, head west to where the land is untouched, and with the exception of a few resorts, there really isn’t a lot going on….and we mean that in the best way possible. Here, the magnificent mountains back undisturbed beaches, where locals learn to surf and families gather for picnics and celebrations at local parks. There is an easy way of life on the west side, and should you get the chance to head that way, you’ll fall in love.
West Oahu is home to the town of Waianae, and the Waianae Harbor, where some of the most incredible activities depart from. Set out for a morning at sea and swim with dolphins in the open ocean while they swim freely following a night of feeding and hunting. From the surface of the ocean, you’ll witness these incredible creatures in their natural habitat, and watch in amazement while they interact with each other.
You can also choose to head up to the west side for a snorkeling and sailing adventure that departs from Ko’olina. Sailing in Hawaii is a great activity, and from the boat, you’ll see the island from an entirely new perspective, with the Waianae Mountain Range, hidden beaches, and even views of Diamond Head filling your day. Another must do activity is the Aloha Kai Luau.
Largely undeveloped and somewhat unknown to travellers, the West Side of Oahu is a treasure waiting to be explored. Escape to the serene side of the island, leaving the city behind, and encounter Oahu in its natural state, only you and the natural setting of the island. There is an entire island to discover, and Oahu’s west coast is definitely worth discovering.
