Iolani Palace
Easily the most important historic site in Honolulu, and perhaps even in Hawaii, the Iolani Palace is the only royal palace in the United States, and was the site of the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Originally, it served as the residence for Hawaii’s Monarchy, and is one of the most beautifully constructed buildings you will ever see. Ali’Iolani Hale
Located just across the street from the Iolani Palace, the Ali’Iolani Hale is currently the home of the Hawaii State Supreme Court. In the days of the Kingdom of Hawaii, it was the former seat of the government, and you may recognize the building from it’s use in Hawaii 5-0. The statue of King Kamehameha the Great stands in front of the building, and you will surely see this during the short drive from Downtown Honolulu to Waikiki.
Kawaiaha’o Chruch & Mission Houses
Seen along King St., the Mission Houses were the residence of the first Christian Missionaries to arrive in Hawaii, and were constructed in the early 1900’s along with the historic Kawaiaha’o Church.
Punchbowl National Cemetery of the Pacific
Overlooking the city of Honolulu, the National Cemetery of the Pacific is a military cemetery located inside the extinct volcanic crater. Over 34,000 military personnel are eternally resting inside this historic cemetery, and gives visitors the opportunity to pay respects to service members. The memorial overlooking the cemetery takes you through many of America’s wars, and the view from the top overlooks much of the island’s South Shore.
