Hawaiians, having never seen a lion, thought this rock formation was a large headed dog. Many years later, westerners named the rock above the mountain ridge of Kahana Bay near Kaaawa, Crouching Lion. There is a popular restaurant also known as the Crouching Lion restaurant. From the edge of the street near the parking lot, look above the restaurant at the rock formations to find the Crouching Lion. There any many Oahu tours and Oahu activities to do but Crouching Lion is mainly known as a Hawaii landmark.
Directions to Crouching Lion: Starting in Waikiki: go down McCully toward the mountain near Kahana Bay. Go over H 1 and follow signs to H 1 west. When you are on H 1, take Likelike Highway through the mountain ridge of Kahana Bay. After you go through these mountains, get on Kahekili Highway Northbound. You will see a sign for the "Crouching Lion Inn" which is below the historic Hawaii landmark Crouching Lion. back to trip planner
